C-Notes

By Bob Snyder

Easter is almost upon us! Tomorrow, Thursday, is Holy Thursday – the Day of Jesus’ Pesach Seder where he proclaimed the institution of the Eucharist, tasks Judas to do as he must do, and tells Peter that he will deny him three times before the cock crows. Did you participate in your own Passover Seder on Monday? I hope so. Later that evening, Jesus prays in the Garden of Gethsemane, is betrayed by Judas, arrested, and condemned by the Sanhedrin.

Holy Friday Jesus is scourged and sentenced by Pilot, is made to carry His Cross to Golgotha where He is crucified, dies and is taken to the tomb.

Holy Saturday is the day that Jesus’ body lay in the tomb. It is a day of anticipation of Easter.

Easter Sunday finally arrives where we find Mary Magdalene and Mary (the mother of James) entering the tomb to find Jesus is gone! The angel asks them, why they are looking for the living in a place of the dead? They run back to inform the apostles and all return to the tomb to verify that Jesus is gone. Halleluiah, He is risen!

The Vigil Mass here in Wray (8:30 pm on Saturday night) celebrates the anticipation of Christ’s rising from the dead. Sunday’s Mass in Yuma (8:30 am) celebrates His rising.

As I have mentioned earlier, Easter is certainly a time for many kinds of celebrations. So ladies and little ladies, be sure to put on your prettiest dress and Easter bonnet and let your men, and little men, take you to church for the grand celebration of Easter.

Happy Easter one and all!
